Envision Solar International, Inc., a sustainable infrastructure designer and developer, has entered into a contract with a California utility to design and engineer Envision Solar's Solar Tree structures for a showcase deployment.
The project is centered in a high visibility innovative facility which will be open to the public. The approximately 80kW Solar Grove array will include Solar Tree structures which are planned to incorporate Envision Solar's CleanCharge column-integrated electric vehicle charging stations.
The installation will provide shade for 36 cars, and is scheduled for completion in mid-2011. In addition, the designs will allow for the incorporation of Envision Solar's EnvisionTrak multi-axis solar tracking technology for the project, which would increase the efficiency of the entire installation by as much as 22 percent.
Robert Noble, founder and CEO of Envision Solar said, "In addition to clean energy from the sun, the Solar Grove will provide much-needed shade for cars and people and be an architecturally beautiful enhancement to the neighborhood. The local community will be able to charge their electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids and see renewable energy generation in their own backyard."
